Abstract
The Atkins’ Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is transforming the way the Atkins Group perceive GIS – there is a maturing understanding that this collaborative platform can deliver integrated planning, data management, analysis and visualisation that benefit both cross-working around the Group, but also delivery to our clients – and that what counts are the problems/solutions that are addressed, rather than the technology in itself.
Our vision to integrate CAD/GIS/BIM is having a widespread impact, with data and design standards across the Group being re-examined to support collaboration between businesses and technologies. The objective of delivering Carbon Critical Design within a “Digital City” context is one of the key foci for the coming year. This paper will portray the evolution of the Atkins SDI covering strategy, requirements analysis, system design, business case development, implementation, development and use across the Atkins group on live projects.
