Hope for the future

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE
FOUNDER
JANE GOODALL INSTITUTE, USA
UN MESSENGER OF PEACE
USA

Abstract

Dr. Jane Goodall travels more than 300 days per year, inspiring audiences of all ages with fascinating stories about her pioneering work with chimpanzees; the education, conservation and development programs of the Jane Goodall Institute; and her reasons for hope that we can save threatened species, the planet and ultimately ourselves. Dr. Goodall will engage her audience and transport them to Africa with stories of the chimpanzees she has known for nearly 50 years. They are still observed today at the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. This long-term study is using satellite imagery such as QuickBird (DigitalGlobe) and ArcGIS mapping tools (ESRI) to monitor chimpanzee habitats inside and outside the park. Dr. Goodall will emphasize the importance of the Jane Goodall Institute’s innovative community-centered conservation projects in Africa and her global Roots & Shoots network, which engages young people from preschool through college in nearly 100 countries as they take positive action in their communities and beyond. A UN Messenger of Peace, Dr. Goodall will discuss why she has hope for the future, and will encourage her audiences to recognize their ability to effect change.
