Abstract
The Exploration & Production Directorate (E&P) of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, manages and operates the finding and development of the fourth largest petroleum resources in the world in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi utilizing a large highly skilled workforce which uses voluminous multidisciplinary datasets. A vital success factor of these complex operations is a timely, readily available and comprehensive access to these datasets and information by the right staff at the right time to meet demanding projects requirements. Accordingly, ADNOC’s E&P Directorate initiated and implemented the Exploration GIS project to put in place an Information System to collate and centralize all spatial datasets in a common repository made available to all users exploiting Web GIS technologies. Additionally, this system enables the decision makers in Senior Management to navigate through the highly secured Web browser and review all oil and gas assets data selecting the required level of specificity whether a high level overview of the Emirate’s hydrocarbon potential maps and statistics or focused details of exploration prospects portfolio and production data.

Furthermore, this system allows geoscientists, engineers and other technical experts to regularly perform highly detailed data capture and analysis tasks and independently manipulate the required output and print results, reports and maps using Company templates. This GIS system is linked with ADNOC’s corporate database to efficiently facilitate retrieving detailed attribute information pertaining to exploration and production assets.

Subsequent project phases include leveraging the existing workflow systems by making GIS readily available for all applicable business applications for increased productivity and enhanced decision making process. This is in addition to linking the currently independent GIS solutions across ADNOC Group of Companies via an “ADNOC Group Corporate GIS” system to facilitate seamless integration and expeditious exchange of spatial data and information from a single user interface.
