Leica HDS
Leica Geosystem has two products to its family of laser scanners (High Definition Surveying) viz., Leica ScanStation 2 – a time-of-flight ranging systems and Leica HDS6000 - ultra-high-speed, phased-based ranging systems. Apart from the hardware, Leica also provides Leica Cyclone and Leica CloudWorx software which can provide geo-referencing, surveying, and CAD integrated engineering tools for creating and managing large scan data sets.
Hardware
Leica ScanStation 2
 Leica ScanStation 2
This has a 360deg horizontal and 270deg vertical field of view which can be used to capture overhead, vertical, horizontal, and sub-level geometry. This has survey-grade dual-axis (Tilt) compensation and delivers survey grade accuracy with a detection range of 300m @ 90% reflectivity with a maximum scan rate of 50,000 points per second, which gives small beam and ultra fine scanning.
Leica HDS 6000
 Leica HDS 6000
This is a full integration of a scanner, controller, data storage and power backup, all in one. This has longer ambiguity interval (laser returns upto 79m away can be analysed), scan rate of 500,000 points per second, scan density of 1.6mm x 1.6mm @10m and 7.9mm x 7.9mm @ 50m for 32x zoom, positional accuracy of 6mm between 1-25m range and 10mm in 25-50m range within a 360deg x 310 deg field of view.
Benefits
High-Definition Surveying (HDS) not only offers many benefits to the measurement professional, but to the recipients and users of accurate spatial datasets.
HDS systems can provide significant cost savings in many ways:
- Lower cost as-built & topographic surveys
- Reduction or elimination of costly "return visits" to the site
- More accurate, complete as-builts for retrofit design projects translate into better retrofit designs. These translate, in turn, into (1) less construction rework due to interferences and fit-up problems and (2) the ability to factory-fabricate instead of field-fabricate.
- Reduced facility downtime due to (1) fast, unobtrusive scene capture and/or (2) minimal field fit-up, field fabrication, and field rework thanks to accurate as-builts
HDS Software
Software plays a critical role in handling the high-definition point clouds effectively and aids in the speedy extraction of engineering information.
Leica Cyclone is HDS software suite which is used to capture, visualize, extract, analyze, and represent point cloud data in the form of traditional or enhanced deliverables. With Leica CloudWorx, HDS data can directly be used in the CAD environment and Leica COE data transfer is a utility which helps in two way data transfer.
