Being a pioneer in airborne Lidar scanning, TopoSys has been founded ten years ago as a civil spin-off of Dornier GmbH, a world-wide well known manufacturer of aircrafts and satellites. The presentation gives an overview about the activities and projects of TopoSys as well as the latest developments of the new sensor systems. Since mid 1984, the technology of a so called fiber based sensor has been developed by Dornier for forward looking in-flight obstacle detection. In parallel to the successful implementation of this complex technology into military helicopters, a new idea was born mid of the 90’s. TopoSys has been founded to use this technology for civil mapping purposes and developed the Falcon I. The Falcon I has been put into service mid of 1996 as a technology leading airborne Lidar system. Due to this unique system, TopoSys has driven the European market of airborne Lidar scanning ahead and build its reputation as a leading European service provider. The presentation shows the major projects performed by TopoSys in the past and how Lidar scanning has been developed over the last years. Also it is explained how the customers benefit from using Lidar as a means of survey.Based on that, the strategy and the new developments of TopoSys are being presented. The view of TopoSys on the market is given and the latest sensor system developments like Falcon III, Harrier 56 and Harrier 24 are being presented. A special attention will be drawn on the applications and the benefits the sensor operator and the data end customer will gain by using the new systems.
