What do you get when you mix GIS, MIS, and Business Intelligence (BI); technologies that have been maturing over the last ten years? Although this mix is precisely what many organizations need to facilitate decision support among varied sections, they often find the IT systems in use just don’t work together. Asset management systems, land information systems, pavement management, permits, capital projects, complaints, traffic control... the list goes on. How do they collaborate?

The financial sector realized tremendous benefits using BI. Can this be extended to other sectors? Of course it can. But it requires a new direction among both IT vendors and consumers alike. This new direction requires an ability to recognize proprietary systems that lock users into one vendor’s offering. It requires an ability to find systems that embrace GIS: The Next Generation The Convergence of Technologies. Do they exist? They do, but there are surprisingly few. Discover some examples of where this convergence of technologies has succeeded, what this convergence is called, and how it can bring a whole new value stream to the decision makers in your organization.
